Sabrina (1954)

This film is dear to my heart, in high school I was the costumer designer for our production of Sabrina Fair which is the play that this film is based on. The star is again the wonderful Audrey Hepburn as the loveable and shy chauffeur's daughter, Sabrina, who lives with her father on a wealthy familys estate in Long Island. Sabrina has always been in love with the families younger son David who has never paid her any attention to her. That is untill Sabrina returns from Paris a new woman and captures his attention. All seems to be going well untill Davids older brother Linus steps in and completely changed the game. I don't want to give away the whole story but there is romance and style abounding in this wonderful film!

Audrey's costumes as Sabrina were designed by Givenchy and chosen from his collection. Aurdrey and Givenchy formed a partnership and afriendship on this film that continued untill her death. He designed costumes for her for almost all of her films after Sabrina. The result is stunning on film and gives us insperation still today.

Fashion can be graceful and everyday

Elegance for easy living is shown here by one of my favorite women Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The women of today are more complex and on the go but that doesn't mean we have to sacrifice our femininity and style. Promise to stay true to towards your inner beauty, these are such possibilities.

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

As we count down to Valentines Day 2010 lets look back at some of our favorite old time romantic films! Starting with the classic Breakfast at Tiffany's!

Audrey Hepburn shines in a role she was never intended to play. The movie was based off of a novel by Truman Capote who pictured Marylin Monroe in the role of Holly Golightly. Instead the studio chose Audrey to portray the New York party girl on the town. George Peppard plays our romantic hero who just happens to move in upstairs in Holly's building. Of course they fall in love but it takes time and a break in Holly's pride before she lets Paul sweep her off her feet.

The most fabulous thing about the movie is of course the fashion! Audrey Hepburns costumes throughout the film retain the style and grace of the late 1950's and early 1960's.

The most notable costume of course is the black Givenchy column dress from the opening scene at Tiffany's, but throughout the film all of Audrey's costumes radiate chic style. The dress shapes are simple and uncomplicated and serve only to accent the woman inside them. Bellow I have added a few dresses availible at audrey*k which help you capture the same style and grace.
